UK. Primary school children are undertested according to an ongoing research by the eye of media.com.
Britain boasts one of the best primary schools in the world with high standards of learning materials for children. However, lots of children are left unchecked when it comes to the efforts put into learning what they are taught or the materials and books they are given to read.
The general perception is that primary school children are overtested, but our research suggests this is far from the truth . Children in private primary schools are tested regularly and are built for that type of academic environment.
Too much pressure is not good for children, but too much comfort is equally destructive . Primary school teachers generally do not want to burden their very young students with the pressure of rigourous academic testing , this leaves many children not understanding alot of what is in their text books.
75 percent of children between the ages of 7 and 10 spoken to by the eye of media. com in the presence of at least one of their parents had no idea what over half of the terminologies used in their books meant. There was also no system of close testing to assess
children across seven primary schools in England. The learning materials used in the schools suggest that children would advance far if a consistent system of proper testing was applid in priamary schools.
Children were generally disappointing with their knowledge of their times table. Only 25 percent of children aged 10 knew their time table all the way to 12. A vast majority of the children at 85 percent also agreed that they were not tested enough. The findings in this article was for public priamary schools only.
Priamary school children need to be encouraged to spend more time learning in school and at home instead of devoting too much time to watching television.
