Primary school children spend too much time on Facebook.
Children aged 8 to 11, spend far too much time on Facebook instead of homework.
A sample survey by the eye of media. com revealed that 614 out of 1,000 mothers questioned say their children spend more than eight hours a week on Facebook.
The age group targeted was eight to eleven year olds. Of the 614 parents, 588 said they wish their children would spend more time reading or doing homework instead.
All 588 said their children do not give them enough homework, whilst the others were content with the homework given.
513 parents from that number, admitted they do not actually assess the quality of the homework given by their children’s school, but glance at it from time to time.
It shows insufficient attention paid to the academic development of primary school children by their parents, and calls for more responsibility by parents.
Of the 1,000 interviewed, 437 admitted not completing secondary school themselves. That fact alone is disappointing and explains the apathy of many parents in closely assessing the quality of their children’s homework
It’s not excuse however, as part of parental maturity and responsibility is for parents to be committed to their children’s development.
The eye of media.com have been contacting some of the schools to raise concerns and propose recommendations. Primary school children need to be given quality homework in order to develop them well mentally before they enter secondary school . When primary school students automatically gain access into most public secondary schools without sound academic development, they often end up being disruptive and uncommitted to academic progress.
