UK Government Heading For Defeat On EU Residence

By Sammie Jones-

The UK government is heading for a defeat in he Lords tomorrow over EU citizens rights.

A vote on whether the rights of EU citizens living in Britain should be given permanent residence takes place on Wednesday.

The debate has been hot for a while but Theresa Mays position has always been for a fair deal. That guarantees the rights of EU citizens if those if UK nationals are also guaranteed.

As far that position is, EU bosses have refused to even discuss the matter until Article 50 is triggered to formalise Brexit – UK’s exit from the EU.

Theresa May us expected to be comprehensively beaten in tomorrow’s vote, as the Lord’s seek to end the despair of severing EU citizens living in Britain.

DISHEARTENING

Many disheartening stories have been told about EU nationals who are already being treated like as one class citizens in the UK by tonnes and various organisations.

TRICKY

Britain may end up in a tricky situation if for any reason other EU countries refuse to return the favour. The complexities of Brexit have been so many, that guarantees of any sort have been few and far between.

If Brits in EU countries are not guaranteed a stay there, an almighty influx of all Brits back to England could force a revocation of rights given to EU residents here or lead to a terrible mess.

The refusal of EU countries to guarantee the rights of British people in their respective countries is cause for concern.

The Lord’s may want to force the UK to take the high moral ground, leading by example. It makes sense on the Dave of it, but God helps us all if it just backfires once Article 50 is formally triggered.
