A 19-year-old protester in Detroit was killed as America was embroiled in a fourth night of protests on Friday.
Demonstrations over the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis has spread across the country.
The teenager was killed in Detroit when a man pulled up to the protests in a car, and indiscriminately fired into the crowd.
In Oakland, California, a federal security guard was also killed during the chaos.
Demonstrations over the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis has spread across the country, as protesters deeply angered by the reckless killing of the 22 year old, take their anger to the streets, disrupting shops with severe looting in the process.
Minneapolis had declared an 8pm curfew for Friday night in a bid to quell the unrest, but the demonstrations have been out of control with several protesters stealing alcohol and other goods from shops.
The state of Minnesota has called for the deployment of an additional 1,200 National Guard soldiers in an act of desperation.
Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota National Guard Adjutant Gen. Jon Jensen made the request at a news conference early Saturday.
The resulting unrest from the distressing killing of Mr. Floyd has gone out of control in recent days.
Up to 2,000 soldiers could be deployed for Saturday night, making it the largest deployment in state history.
“This is the largest civilian deployment in Minnesota history that we have out there today and quite candidly right now, we do not have the numbers,” Walz said. “We cannot arrest people when we are trying to hold ground because of the sheer size, the dynamics and the wanton violence.”
Four Minneapolis police officers were fired Tuesday, after Derek Gauvin, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder Friday – has sparked protests and rioting across the cities in the U.S.
Riots have been particularly bad in New York City and Washington, D.C., to Chicago; Columbus, Ohio, Louisville, Ky., and Dallas, to San Jose, Calif.; Los Angeles and Portland, Ore.
“The arrest of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the brutal killing of George Floyd is a welcome but overdue step on the road to justice,” Floyd family attorney Ben Crump said Friday, according to FOX 9. “We expected a first-degree murder charge. We want a first-degree murder charge. And we want to see the other officers arrested.”
Hundreds of protesters filled the streets in Louisville, where they demonstrated for a second night not only against Floyd’s death but against the death of Breonna Taylor, an emergency room technician who was killed by a police officer in her home on March 13.
