Tyson Fury has a long way to go before the British boxing board give him a license to box again.
General secretary of the British Boxing Board, Robert Smith said the former world champion has not responded to a request for a meeting made last December, as he expressed concern for the gypsy man’s well being. Fury was suspended from boxing for two years after refusing a drug test and admitting cocaine use. He later confessed to be battling depression. ‘Tyson has not responded to our request to meet with us’ Robert Smith told reporters as he made clear his view there is a long way to go before the former world heavyweight champion will box in a British ring again.
‘There is a long way to go before we reissue his licence, for which we will need to see his up-to-date medical records. While we would hope to see Tyson back in the ring our first concern is his well-being.’
The message from the board sharply contrasts that made by Fry himself on Wednesday morning, and his manager, Frank Warren. Fury took to Twitter on Wednesday morning, writing: ‘Applying for my boxing licence today, will be defending my Ring Magazine title in April, can’t wait to get back in the ring.’
Warren tweeted: ‘Delighted to have @TysonFury back! I’ll be applying for the reinstatement of his BBBoC license on his behalf. He is the best heavyweight in the world and he is coming to recapture the belts he never lost in the ring, starting in April!’
Fury is currently the holder of The Ring magazine title, but will loose that next month if he fails to contract a fight by next month .
Claims from Tyson Fury and counter against him is far more than the boxing world needs. All boxing fans want is to see him back in the ring and decide for themselves whether he still has what it takes to be the division’s best.ury’s stock went up tremendously when he dethroned Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 by landslide victory, but Anthony Joshua has since taking over the reins and now holds two titles. Joshua is currently the man to beat.
