The popular television presenter Davina McCall revealed the deeply personal news of a breast cancer diagnosis on Saturday, marking the second major health crisis she has navigated in less than a year.

The announcement comes approximately eleven months after McCall successfully underwent surgery to remove a benign brain tumour.
She conveyed the news in a video posted to her Instagram, candidly sharing the intense emotional journey she has faced since the discovery.

This latest chapter in the difficult Davina McCall Health Battle follows her previous recovery from a rare colloid cyst, the benign brain tumour she disclosed last November. At 58, McCall maintains a visibly high energy level, making her public health struggles particularly impactful for her millions of dedicated followers.

McCall recounted the crucial moment of discovery, attributing her vigilance to a simple reminder she saw backstage. She found a small, intermittent lump a few weeks ago while working on The Masked Singer and the TV show Lorraine. She explained that presenter Lorraine Kelly had thoughtfully placed signs on the backs of all the dressing room doors encouraging women to ‘check your breasts.’
Every time she went to the bathroom, she conducted a self-check. Because the lump persisted, one morning she looked in the mirror and decided unequivocally: “I’m going to get that looked at.”
A subsequent biopsy confirmed the lump was indeed breast cancer, prompting her to undergo a lumpectomy just under three weeks ago. She feels tremendous relief, knowing the cancer was very small and caught early, preventing it from spreading beyond the initial site.
The successful outcome of her initial treatment provides significant relief, moving McCall into a more positive mental space following the initial shock. The presenter confirmed she has had the tumour successfully removed and received the excellent news that her lymph nodes were clear.
Consequently, doctors did not remove any lymph nodes, meaning her path forward involves minimal additional treatment. Her treatment plan now includes five days of radiotherapy in January, described simply as an “insurance policy” against recurrence. She emphasized the profound support received from her medical team, family, and fiancé, Michael Douglas, acknowledging the cumulative toll of this second major health incident.
She admitted feeling “very angry” when she first received the news but consciously worked to “let go of that” anger, now feeling immensely positive about her future.
The renewed Davina McCall Health Battle inspired her to issue a powerful, urgent message to women across the country. She implored her followers: “Get checked if you’re worried. Check yourself regularly.” Furthermore, she stressed the importance of following up on all recommended screening procedures, even after receiving initial clear results.
McCall revealed she has dense breasts; she had a standard mammogram in August, which did not raise any red flags.
However, she admitted postponing a recommended ultrasound follow-up, saying, “I just couldn’t find time to do it.” She strongly advised against this delay, telling women plainly: “Don’t do that. Get the ultrasound.”
Her experience highlights the essential, sometimes life-saving, value of supplementary diagnostic tools when standard mammograms may not be sufficiently detailed.
This latest diagnosis forms part of a tumultuous period following her previous health scare. Last November, McCall revealed she had a benign brain tumour, a colloid cyst, which she described as “very rare.”
The odds of having the condition were “three in a million,” she said in a video, noting the tumour was discovered months earlier after a company offered her a comprehensive health scan in exchange for giving a menopause talk. That prior Davina McCall Health Battle led directly to her surgery and recovery, establishing her existing resilience.

McCall initially rose to national prominence presenting on MTV in the mid-1990s, later hosting Channel 4’s Streetmate. She became a household name and an established television force as the host of Big Brother from 2000 to 2010. She continues to present popular programmes across various networks, currently hosting the successful ITV dating show My Mum, Your Dad. More recently, however, McCall has transformed herself into one of the UK’s leading advocates for women’s health, particularly focusing on the effects of menopause.
Her commitment to breaking taboos surrounding the subject is profound; her 2022 book, Menopausing, received high praise and won Book of the Year at the British Book Awards.
The difficulties she experienced with perimenopausal symptoms, including problems with multi-tasking, led her to consider whether she had a brain tumour or even Alzheimer’s disease, a fear that prompted the health check-up that ultimately led to her initial brain tumour discovery. The presenter was rightfully appointed
Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2023 for her outstanding services to broadcasting.
She continues to manage her private life with dignity, living with her fiancé and co-hosting a weekly lifestyle podcast called Making The Cut. The family knows the pain of cancer all too well, as she has previously raised money for Cancer Research UK in memory of her late sister,
Caroline Baday, who tragically died from lung cancer in 2012. McCall’s remarkable transparency throughout her Davina McCall Health Battle reinforces her powerful role as a genuine public health advocate.
