By Ben Kerrigan-
Uk prime minister Theresa May and Vladimir Putin met for the first time at the sidelines if the G20 summit today, Sunday, in China.
The pair expressed progressive mutual interests to improve relations, with May acknowledging the existence of differences between the policies of the two countries.
She said she hoped ” Some complex and serious concerns” could be improved through dialogue, stating that she hoped to have a frank “an open relationship and dialogue”.
Vladimir Putin- the very direct Russian leader- said he was pleased to meet the UK prime minister.
He expressed an interest in bringing the bilateral relationship of the two countries to a higher level, wishing her success in dealing with the very difficult task of Brexit.
On the table for discussion was the crucial issue of international security, drug trafficking, and a solution to the Syrian crises.
The search for common ground formed the pillar of their meeting, though May was assertive on the need to secure access for aid convoys and demanded an end to the alleged indiscriminate bombings of citizens.
Theresa May said it was important for humanitarian supplies to get to innocent Syrians in desperate need.
Other issues coming under the complex category include the flying of Russian planes too close to British air space, and ofcourse the hit topic of nuclear development or disarmament.
Nothing about any discussions in relation to this issue was put in the public domain, but there is no doubt this would have been one of the complex and serious issues of concern in need of addressing.
The UK are known allies of the U.S, who are hardly on brilliant terms with Russia, so it remains to be seen how Britain and Russia can significantly improve relations, if any such improvements with America remains stagnant.
