Theresa May has called an emergency meeting to discuss Syria following the chemical attacks allegedly committed by Assad’s regime.
She is expected to call for military action in tandem with that planned by the United States and its allies.
However, some sources have suggested that the UK prime minister is prepared to take action against the Assad regime without seeking permission from Parliament first. Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn is strongly against this position.
Theresa May said “all the indications” are that the Syrian regime of president Bashar al-Assad, which denies mounting a chemical attack, was responsible.
Highly placed Russian officials who provides military support to the Syrian regime, have warned of a Russian response to a US attack.
In the U.S, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders appeared to retract President Trump’s serious warning to Russia that it should “get ready” for missile strikes against its ally.
She told reporters that the president had “a number of options at his disposal and a number remain on the table”, but added: “We haven’t laid out any specific actions we plan to take.”
President Assad has long been an evil and wicked leader of his country, backed by the similarly evil regime of Russia. He needs to be stopped , but the threat Russia poses to world peace can also not be ignored. Past U.S presidents have avoided a potential clash with Russia for
for the sake of peace, but something now needs to be done to send a serious message to Assad’s brutal regime.
The threat of military action that may involve a clash with Russia should be carefully considered, but how long will Russia’s bullish support for Syria allow a murderous regime continue unpunished?
