THERESA MAY AHEAD OF BORIS JOHNSON IN BITTER RACE FOR PM JOB

BY ERIC KING

Current home Secretary, Theresa May, is ahead of Boris Johnson, in the race to become the next pm, a you gov poll has indicated.

Johnson was a leading advocate of Brexit in the EU referendum, and has been a favourite to take up the prime minister job in no 10.

It is interesting that Theresa May has gone ahead of Boris Johnson, as she was never mentioned as a potential front runner for the prime ministers job before and during the referendum campaign.

However, there have been complaints from Johnson supporters that government insiders have been whipping up and unfair drive to raise support for May. If May wins, she will be  the first  female Prime Minister in Britain since Margaret Thatcher.

Other contenders include education secretary, Nick Morgan, former front benches, Liam Fox, and health secretary, Jeremy Hunt. Nominations are expected to begin on Wednesday and close on Thursday.

Both May and Johnson have a wealth of experience in public services and the political arena. However, who will become prime minister will depend on who can garner more support from their fellow Mp’s.

The fact Theresa May is ahead now does not mean she will win, as polls do sometimes change, as we know. however Johnson and his supporters have a short time to fill in the gap.
