Taylor Swift dominated the Billboard Music Awards with eight wins, including top artist, top Bill board 200 album, and top female artist, top hot 100 artist, and fan voted achievement award. The well liked Grammy Award winner beat one direction artist, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith, and Kate Perry, to top the list of quality stars listed for the prestigious award at the MGM Grand last night. The success makes her the most accomplished artist in the history of the show with a total of 20wins, beating the record of 19 wins she previously shared with Garth Brooks

“This is kind of a graduation for us,” she told a talent packed audience. The American super star showcased her action-filled music video for “Bad Blood,” which stars Selena Gomez and Lena Dunham and added “I am so excited I got to show the world,” Swift told the audience. She then proceeded to also tribute the award to her brother Zayn,” Liam Payne said of Zayn Malik, who left the boy band.

Thanking the fans for the best female award, she said ” to win female artist is incredible because one of the best things to happen to me is I have surrounded myself with incredible women. To all the girls out there, thank you for this”. Taylor smith is a well bred woman of enviable accomplishments. She wrote her first song at the tender age of 12, and signed an artist development deal with RCA records 2 years later at 14. That year, she became the youngest writer hired by Sony/ATV tree publishing line. Her path was thereafter set for stardom; one she has delivered to a high level. Once very vocal about feminist issues, she has definitely set her sights to be a woman with a difference. Every woman with high dreams must take lots of positive inspiration from her.

Some of the other singers who featured at the awards include Van Halen, who kick started the show’s performance with their 1984 hit “Panama.” Others like world renowned, Mariah Carey, did not seem to be in her best element when she sang “Vision of Love,” and her follow up with her new single, “Infinity,” was not much better either. Britney Spears and the simple minds both showed a high level of vitality in their separate performances, but none quite compared with the electric atmosphere generated and evoked by the excellent showcase and accomplishment of the highly accomplished Taylor swift.

Meghan Trainor’s duet with John Legend was smooth and touching, and she was surely proud to woi hot 100 song for “All About That Bass.” Bursts of tears in her eyes as she sang, poignantly defined a special occassion- one that pierced every bone in her body. Her friend and collaborator Charlie Puth, who performed “See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa earlier in the show was also emotional on stage. It was a great night, but Taylor Swift definitely was the shine of the whole show.
