Lord Sugar’s series of tweet’s targeted at MP Diane Abbott is harassment, a short survey conducted by The Eye Of Media.Com has concluded.
Researchers asked a small sample of 12 women how they would feel if they were sent four tweets in a space of one week criticising something about them even if the criticism had some valid grounds. All 12 women said they would not like it. When asked if it would cause them distress, they said it would depend on the contents. All tweets made by Lord Alan Sugar about labour MP Diane Abbott were then given to them to examine and asked how they expected her to be affected.
Each of the women said they would be very upset by it. When asked if they would be alarmed, distressed or both, they all said they would be both alarmed and distressed because the criticisms were put on social media. Most of the women interviewed had some negative comments to make about the details stated by Lord Sugar about Abbott in terms on how it reflected on her . but questioned why he was targeting her specifically.
Lord Alan Sugar made four tweets directed at the Mp in a period of one week both criticising and ridiculing her. Each of the tweets was making reference to the Mp in negative light. One said she had concerns over Uk manufacturing and said nothing is built in the Uk nowadays but she just bought a new flat screen stated built in Antenna. She asked where is Antenna.
Under Social Media Attack : Labour MP Diane Abbott
Another tweet ridicules an incident in which Abbott was asked how she was going to fund police recruitment in which she got her mathematics wrong. The same question is to be posed to a separate group of black women next week. The women selected were a mixture of random women known to the researchers and some unknown to them. Diane Abbott complained this week that she was being harassed by Lord Sugar who had been targeting her on twitter. Ms Abbott has made a number of complaints in the last year that she has been the victim of targeted racial abuse on social media, calling for twitter to do more to address her complaints.
Her complaint sparked an investigation by The Eye Of Media.Com , focusing on the level of abuse she had faced on social media and how the Uk media was responding to her complaints. Following a second complaint made by Abbott that she was racially victimised on a January episode of BBC’s question time, Abbott’s press team was contacted for an elaboration of her experience, only to be greeted by what appeared to be an inadequate press team.
A special team was subsequently assigned to evaluate Ms Abbott’s overall professional experience and assess the treatment she gets , the reasons she gets those treatments, and what it tells us about her and society. It is yet to be completed.
