Multi-millionaire Simon Dolan, has filed a High Court challenge against England’s coronavirus lockdown rules, considers the lockdown describing them as ‘some of the most extreme restrictions imposed on fundamental freedoms in the modern era’.
Simon Dolan, 50, fears the restrictions could kill more people than they save, with an economic slump potentially leading to more suicides and people leaving health conditions unchecked.
The entrepreneur, worth an estimated £142 million, has always been against the lockdown.
He is bringing the claim against Health Secretary Matt Hancock and Education Secretary Gavin Williamson. He is seeking a judicial review of the regulations, which he claims are costing the economy £2.5 billion a day.
Mr Dolan says the aim of the proceedings is to lift the ruinous lockdown, restore the civil liberties taken away from the public and allow schools, healthcare services and the economy to restart.
Hie is demanding that the British Government to urgently action the allowing of gatherings of up to 100 people, the reopening of schools, and to commit to a review the lockdown restrictions every two weeks
Dolan has raised over £128,000 from around 4,000 individuals through crowdfunding.
He has demanded disclosure of minutes from all Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) meetings since the beginning of the year for the purposed of transparency. He also sites the Human Rights Act under his defence.
On his fundraising page, Mr Dolan says:
‘The lockdown has and will lead to devastating economic impact (massive unemployment, tax increases, closure of businesses, reduced tax receipts etc). It has, and will lead to far more deaths from suicide, undiagnosed conditions, untreated conditions – indeed far more than would have been potentially saved by the lockdown
“My lawyers have this morning filed my application to the High Court for a Judicial Review of the Government’s lockdown regulations.
“At the heart of this historic case is the protection of freedom and liberty for 66 million people.
“We are challenging a catastrophic set of decisions which will leave an indelible print from a boot which has stamped on the nation’s freedoms and will blight the lives of generation after generation.
“Every day that the lockdown remains in place is one more day the country cannot afford – on any level.
“For those reasons and more, this is very possibly the most important case of our lifetime.
“The claim argues that the lockdown measures are unlawful because they breach the European Convention on Human Rights, the five tests for terminating lockdown are too narrow, and the measures taken by Government are disproportionate.
