British music executive Simon Cowell has formally become the newest Patron of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity). This prestigious appointment represents the most senior honorary role offered to volunteer supporters, recognising an individual’s significant, sustained assistance and dedication to the charity’s mission.

Simon visited Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) earlier this year and was immediately inspired by the complex, life-saving work that happens every day. While there, he spent time meeting staff, patients, and families, with some of the children even singing to him during the emotionally resonant visit.
He met with oncology consultant Dr Robert Chiesa, who detailed the hospital’s pioneering work using base-edited Car T-Cells to treat previously incurable leukemia. This innovative treatment involves taking a patient’s immune cells and carefully re-programming them in a lab so they can accurately find and kill cancer cells throughout the body.
The impact of this work was brought into sharp focus when Cowell had the pleasure of meeting young patient Alyssa, who benefited from this world-first treatment. Alyssa, accompanied by her family, shared her story at the charity’s recent clay pigeon shoot event, making a huge impact on all who heard her speak.
