A brutal and evil 16-year-old Rhubarb Bridge rapist has been indefinitely detained in hospital .The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, featured in Channel 4’s 24 hours in police custody. The horrible waste of space who escaped jail because of serious mental health issues that deemed him unfit to face trial, played his part in wrecking the lives of his victims. Many of them will need counselling for a long time to overcome the trauma he subjected them to.
The useless teenager who must never see daylight again raped a woman in broad daylight on the Bretton Way cycle path near the bridge on September 30 2017. The woman was walking along the path when the teenager ran up behind her and produced a large knife from his trousers. She screamed in panic, but was told to be quiet by the teenage boy, who then forced her into nearby bushes where he raped her.
DNA found on the rape victim’s shirt later revealed him as the perpetrator of the spate of attacks on vulnerable women.with forensic experts stating that there was a “one in a billion” chance it did not belong to the defendant.
A week later, the sick pervert struck again. Around 1pm on October 6, the unnamed woman was walking along the same footpath when the teenager approached her from behind and slapped her bottom. The evil monster then grabbed her by the arms and told her, “I’m going to take your bag”, before snatching her handbag and running off.
Her handbag was recovered from bushes by officers, but the victim’s purse, containing her bank cards and £20 in cash, had been stolen by the boy. When he was arrested, his so called mental health issues did not prevent him from fabricating a story to escape the force of the law.
The lying teenager claimed the sex with his first victim, on September 30, had been consensual, before answering ‘no comment’ to all other questions put to him. He was tried in his absence at Cambridge Crown Court in November 2018 after being deemed unfit to stand trail because of mental health issues. He was found guilty by a jury after being charged with rape, robbery, sexual assault and possessing a knife in a public place.
He was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court(pictured) yesterday and given a section 37 hospital order, to run indefinitely. He was also handed a restraining order preventing him from contacting the two victims in the case, again to run indefiniteiy.
DCI Adam Gallop, who investigated together with DC Denise Brown, said: “This was a complex case and devastating for the victims, who both showed courage and strength throughout.
