The Queen Waiting For Theresa May To Discuss Brexit in 2017

The Queen will be waiting for Theresa May to discuss Brexit with her in 2017

As one of the most informed people in the country, she is serious about political issues, according to sources.

The Queen is said to have been disappointed with Theresa May over her silence about Brexit, the Times reported yesterday.

When the U.K prime minister visited Scotland in September, she was expected to give the royals an inside briefing on how she intended to negotiate Britain’s way out of the EU, according to sources close to the Monarch. This could suggest there is a tense relationship between the pair over Brexit, which is being quiet. Until somebody close to the Monarch decided to leak it to The Times.

If the Queen is disappointed, it suggests she has good reason to have expected more from the prime minister. The Queen may have even hinted her interest on the topic, only for May to have consciously evaded it. We don’t know for sure, all we know is that the Queen was disappointed enough for someone to leak it to The Times. The question is who leaked it and why?

The Tory leader’s secrecy upset the Queen, who had considered the Prime Minister’s visit to Balmoral an opportunity to develop a closer and less formal relationship with the prime minister.  Some commentators concluded this to mean Theresa May doesn’t have much respect for the Queen, but allies of the prime minister have rushed to clear that nonesensical idea and clarify that Theresa May has the most respect for The Queen. More will be forthcoming in the year ahead as far as revealing her hands on Brexit with the Queen.

The Queen was disappointed with the prime minister, but Theresa May herself at that early stage of Brexit was still formulating her thoughts on how she would want to leave. She wouldn’t have had much to offer the Queen in terms of useful information at the time.

According to The Times, their relationship did not get off to a great start because the Queen and the Duke felt let down by Theresa May. They had expected to hear more about Ms May’s thoughts on Brexit, but were left disappointed.

A relevant question is whether Theresa May was aware the Royals had this expectation, and even so, whether she had enough information about her plans about Brexit to share with the Royals. Another wonder is why the Queen and the Duke never put her on the spot about Brexit plans.

These are all  questions to wonder about and Buckingham Palace have always insisted on not discussing private issues in relation to the Queen. This official stance becomes confusing where there has been a leak from Buckingham Palace, leaving all to wonder the purpose of the leak. The thing with a leak from the Palace is that it will not likely have the approval of the Queen, but there will still have to be a purpose for a revelation from an inside source. In this case, it could be a subtle way of passing on a message that the Queen is worried about the process Brexit would take and would like to be informed by Theresa May. Alternatively, the Queen may simply want to be kept informed about political developments out of interest. With Brexit certain to have an historic impact om Britain, the various possibilities of outcomes must be something the Queen would love to discuss with Theresa May.

With the Supreme Court decision on Brexit and its process just about 4 weeks away, the Queen may want to have an input, but was if Theresa My disagrees with her views? Perhaps on something so historical with a huge potential impact on the future of Britain, she just wants a briefing on May’s plans. Interesting thought.
