POLITICALLY MOTIVATED MURDER OF JOE COX

BY LUCY CAULKETT

The killing of special Parliamentarian, Joe Cox, was politically motivated.

52 year old Thomas Mair had shouted ”Britain First” before executing a brutal politically motivated. murder on the well loved MP, just a year into her post. The ‘Britain First’ far right group, quickly denied any connection to the killing. However, a recently disclosed picture shows Thomas Maire holding up a Britain’s first banner at a rally staged to protest against Islam.

The picture does not provide evidence that the group solicited the killing, or even know about it. However, it strongly suggests that Mair had strong ideologies shared by the political group, which contributed to his crazy decision to kill Joe Cox, moments after a surgery she held at her West Yorkshire constituency. The killing was senseless, and contrary to everything a democratic process stands for.  Some have cruelly dismissed the murder as a false flag designed to pave the way for the Remain camp , but those claims are rubbish. This callous act was the work of a man full of hate.

A mad man by the name of Tommy Mair, decided to carry out this evil act because of his fanatical political persuasions. There may have had some mental health issues issues at work too, but initial assessment showed no mental troubles. Saying that, his pathetic response in court when gave his details as ”death for traitors, makes him look more mental than many in mental homes. Who says something so stupid court? The killing has shocked the nation. The Brexit group was ahead in the polls, and there was absolutely no need for something so inhumane and evil. Cox worked for several campaigns humanitarian campaigns, who fought actively for Syrian refugees, campaigns against apartheid, and much more. The killing of the Parliamentarian

Her commitment to the Remain group was testament to her huge sympathy and consideration for refugees and immigrant, probably to a fault. Sympathy should be had for genuine refugees, but this does not mean we must support the idea of given up our sovereignty and furthering the weakening of our boarders. Cox, obviously had a different take on this, and was entitled to her convictions. She followed them with passion, dedication, and love, which is what matters most. We won’t always agree on matters of ideology or politics.  Disagreement has nothing to do with the freedom to maturely and professionally fight for what we believe, even where others may feel differently.

The fact is that Tommy Maire killed Joe Fox because in his view, she wanted Britain to remain in the E.U. That was putting Britain second in his view, not first. What this waste of space failed to realize is that Joe Cox was putting Britain first in the sense of what she thought was best for the country. She was utterly convinced that staying in the E.U would benefit both Britain and E.U members together. She may have been wrong, but she is worthy of an infinite level of appreciation and respect, for her drive and good heart. That the killing was politically motivated does not implicate the British First far right group without evidence of their influence or involvement in the murder. Britain’s first official representatives have tried to discredit the media’s report of the incident, but Tommy Mair was incontrovertibly an associate or avid supporter of Britain First. That is the most relevant consideration here.

The sad killing of Joe Cox should not prevent those in favour of voting Britain out the E.U. Conspiracy theories suggesting this killing to be a ploy to keep Britain in the E.U should be ignored. Whether Britain stays in or out of the E.U, depends on how we vote, and it is up to each one what way they vote. This is not the time for discussing voting for the EU in respect to the death of Joe Cox. Joe Cox was killed brutally for her political stance on the E.U, but brutal killings have occurred in other regimes in the world, and this does not necessarily affected the eventual outcome of the elections there. Most important here is that Cox could and should have been protected from this vicious and senseless killing. She expressed concern about aggression and intimidation, and it is  a real tragedy that no serious and immediate action was taken to protect her life from this politically motivated killing.
