LEICESTER CITY BEAT SWANSEA

BY PETER D BERTIN
Leicester’s attacking football paid enough yesterday with a 2nil victory to give them hope in their relegation battle- amongst those at the bottom of the league. They started the game with pace and this caused problems from the start for Swansea. Leicester’s stand in striker, Ulloa, scored his first goal in the premiership since boxing day with a simple tap to give Leicester the lead after 15 minutes. The only real chance for Swansea came just before half time when John Jo Shelvey was unlucky with a neatly curled shot which had no real pace and was too simple for Kasper Schmeichel.

2nd half

Mark Albrighton should have scored early in the 2nd half but he put his shot just past the post. Nelson Oliveira came close to an equalizer but was saved by the left of Leicester’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Swansea had a free kick which went across the face of the goal for Jefferson Montero to hit it off an defender and go out for a goal kick. Varney came close but Fabianski made a great save to keep it 1-0. Varney was brought down by Swansea’s Ashley Williams, but referee Lee Probert just waved play on. Varney forced Fabianski to make a great near post save.

Leicester striker, Alvaress was fiercely brought down by John Jo Shelvey and gave Leicester a free kick and Cambiaso shot deflect off Fabinski’s parry and King put the ball in the back of the net, to give Leicester the 3 points they deserved on the day. Leicester outfought Swansea city with their pace and attacking prowess. With Leicester playing 3 out of their next 6 games, against teams from the bottom 5 teams, this form could save them from the drop. As for Swansea they may feel a little hard done by, as they had their chances, but Gary Monk has done a brilliant job for them since the departure of Michael Laudrup(previous manager) and they are in a healthy position and are in a safe position in the league
