His seamless integration into the Premier League has allowed him to unlock a higher level of performance, consistently delivering commanding displays against the world’s best forwards. These exceptional characteristics are precisely why his William Saliba transfer value is currently considered among the highest for central defenders globally, placing him alongside names like Rúben Dias and Matthijs de Ligt.

Experts from the CIES Football Observatory now estimate Saliba’s price tag to be in the region of €89 million to €105 million (£77m to £90m), a figure that places him, according to some metrics, as the most valuable player at the Emirates Stadium.

The colossal rise in William Saliba transfer value directly reflects the long-term contract he signed with the Gunners in July 2023. That lucrative deal, running until 2027, rewards his form with an annual salary reported to be around $9.88 million. This significant investment provides Arsenal with incredible negotiation power, allowing them to dictate any terms should an offer ever arrive.

Considering his age and consistent form, any club wishing to secure his signature would likely need to break the world record transfer fee for a defender, a valuation that serves as a powerful deterrent.  Saliba has declared that he’s ready to give ‘even more’ for Mikel Arteta’s side.” I feel proud of myself because I first signed in 2019, and now in 2025, I’m still here to extend my contract,” said Saliba after signing his new contract.

I’m so happy. I feel at home. We have a good team, we have a good squad, we have good staff. “The coach is perfect for me, so it’s the best place to be. I enjoy every day when I have the chance to wear this shirt. I try to give everything, and now I’ll give even more to this club and to the fans.”When asked on the progress and development made since his debut three years ago for Arsenal against Crystal Palace, Saliba said: “When you sign, you dream of playing many games, but it comes so quickly. Before I signed, I didn’t realise that I would play a lot of games like this so it’s good and I want to play more.

“When I signed, I went back to Saint-Etienne, and I came back and became a starter so a lot of things have happened, but I’m so proud of my journey. I never gave up, even in the tough moments.”

“Of course, I wanted to play straight away, but I didn’t expect that it would be as good as it was. I played well, we almost won the league in the first season, and we almost won the league the season after as well.”

“I’m happy now, but not 100% happy because we have to do more. We have to win titles, because it’s what we want, what the club wants.”

Saliba added: “The boss is one of the best coaches in the world. He has helped me a lot, him and his staff, so I’m so happy to have them as a coach. I’m 24 now, and I think I haven’t reached my peak.”

“I have a lot of things to improve, a lot of things to give to this team, and I know that the coach and the staff will help me to become the best, or one of the best, defenders in the world and win trophies.”

William Saliba’s association with Arsenal began when the club secured his signature in July 2019 from French side Saint-Étienne for a fee of approximately £27 million (€30 million). This move came after he had swiftly progressed through the youth ranks at Montfermeil and Saint-Étienne, where he had already begun to make a strong impression in Ligue 1 at the age of 18.

Following the transfer, Saliba immediately returned to Saint-Étienne on a loan deal, followed by successful subsequent spells at Nice and Marseille. These crucial loan periods moulded him into the world-class defender he is today, fulfilling the ‘perfect’ developmental path that Arsenal had initially envisioned.

Despite his lengthy commitment to the club, his competitive debut was delayed until August 2022. Saliba scored his memorable first goal for the Gunners shortly thereafter, on September 18, 2022, during a Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth.

The goal was a stunning, curled left-footed shot from the edge of the box that sailed into the top corner, immediately endearing him to the Arsenal faithful and being voted the club’s Goal of the Month.

That iconic strike marked a decisive turning point, symbolizing his triumphant return and the start of his stellar first-team career.

Real Madrid, one of the few clubs with the financial muscle and prestige to genuinely test Arsenal’s resolve, has monitored Saliba’s progress extensively. The Spanish giants face looming defensive uncertainties, with key players entering the latter stages of their careers or struggling with persistent injury issues.

Their desire for a young, proven, world-class centre-back makes Saliba the ‘perfect’ candidate for their long-term defensive rebuilding project at the Santiago Bernabéu. Nevertheless, the recent signals sent from London Colney remain unwavering: Saliba is a cornerstone of the club’s future under Mikel Arteta and Josh Kroenke.

The club hierarchy views Saliba as essential to their Premier League title ambitions and their continued progression in the UEFA Champions League. Selling such a key player, especially after committing to a huge new contract, would send a destructive message about their competitive intent.

They have zero interest in entertaining any bids, regardless of the size. This firm commitment mirrors the club’s determination to retain its top talent, demonstrated by previous successful contract renewals. Therefore, while Real Madrid might continue scouting the Frenchman, the current transfer window provides no realistic avenue for a deal.

Saliba’s story is one of patience and explosive delivery, a journey that has solidified his importance to the team.
