LAW FIRM TAKING LEGAL ACTION OVER BREXIT

BY ERIC KING

A law firm is taking legal action to guarantee the formal process for UK”s exit does not take place without Parliaments consent.

Mishcon de Reya LLP is a law firm founded by Victor Mishcon in Brixton in 1937, Mishcon de Reya LLP has offices in London and New York. It became a limited liability partnership on 9 October 2015.

London law firm, Mischon de Reya is acting on behalf a group of academics and business people determined to ensure
that the legal process is followed before Article 50 is invoked, the BBC have reported.

The group insist that it will be illegal for any prime minister to invoke Article 50 until it is fully debated and voted for by Parliamentary Mp’s.

Although the U.K has  voted overwhelmingly for Britain to leave the E.U, the outcome of the referendum was advisory, and not legally binding. This means that only after Article 50 is formally invoked, will the 2 year process for the U.k’s exit begin.

Both David Cameron and his likely predecessor, Theresa May, have said that Parliament will respect the wishes of voters. However, Parliament have the power to block the motion, if M.p’s refuse to consent to the formal process required for Brexit to be enacted.

And with two thirds of Mp’s being pro Remain, there are concerns that the legal process may lead to blocking the process, if Mp’s stand in the way.

The plans emphasized by Nicolas Sturgeon, Scotland’s first Minister, for a second referendum in Scotland to leave the U.K, may prove more problematic and divisive than Brexit. It could tie
the U.K in complex talks and negotiations.

Most Brexit voters were against Remain because of longstanding issues over immigration, and our appalling lax boarders. However, concerns over the economy, reflected in the depreciation of the pound since the historical vote, has caused uproar among politicians and many professional bodies and businesses.
