Landlords Must be held to account for the state of their premises and the behaviour of their tenants to co-tenants, and those who share a building.
The eye of media.com has received a number of emails reporting the conduct of landlords across the country. Many landlords neglect the state of their properties but continue to charge their tenants high rent. Tenants continue to claim that landlords refuse to fix faulty parts of the properties they rent and just keep making excuses and putting it off.
Last year, the eye of.media.com investigated a landlord who refused to give a female prospective tenant a tenancy contract, requesting to be paid in cash. When the eye of.media.com about the incident, he claimed the vacancy had gone and refused to answer the door after that. A neighbour told us a week later that he had gone on holiday.
CONFRONTING
We will be confronting landlords who recklessly treat their tenants, and hold them to account for their unprofessionalism. Theresa May’s s government has promised to eradicate rogue landlords, and the eye of.media.com will respond to the call to address list of the bitter complaints by some of our readers.
DUTY
Landlords have a duty to cater for the needs of their tenants, especially those relating directly to the property where they live. Landlords of tenants on benefits, in particular, are said to have a snobbish approach towards their tenant’s complaints of faults or damages in the property.
Although landlords of professional tenants are usually more responsible, there seem to be a few who don’t appreciate their paying tenants.
