Born in New York, Frehley was instrumental in forming Kiss in 1973 alongside Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss. He embraced the band’s comic book-style persona, becoming the Spaceman character. His elaborate makeup and unique, signature move—a smoking, light-up guitar—were central to the band’s spectacle. Kiss quickly became famous for their over-the-top stage shows, featuring pyrotechnics, smoke, and simulated blood, all while the members wore elaborate costumes, platform boots, and their iconic black and white face paint. This visually explosive approach propelled them to massive popularity throughout the mid-1970s.
