An Indian Mother attempted to burn her own daughter alive after a soothsayer the family contacted said she would have a baby girl.

Her daughter, named as Girija, already has a daughter, and  when she fell pregnant again, the thought of having another daughter terrified her mother and sister.

Whilst Girija was asleep, her mother attempted to pour acid and kerosene on her stomach, causing the girl to flee in pain and agony.

India is notorious for discrimination against women, and is noted as one of the worst G 20 countries for women to be born.

In 2014, the UN committee on the rights of a child  expressed serious concern about India’s failure to ensure economic and none discriminative laws against women.

Contacting soothsayers, who predict the future is common in India, as they are known to have strange abilities to see ahead into the future.

However, the practice of discriminating against women in India is the scourge of the Indian society as a whole.

A country in which the  rape  of women is widespread, and  the forced marriage of young girls is rampant, India is shamefully backward when it comes to the implementation of equal opportunities.

Urgent intervention is required to establish a culture of normality and equality of opportunity in India.

Many educated and enlightened individuals are strongly opposed to this culture of oppression, but there remains a large body of small minded, old fashioned bullies who refuse to reverse this unacceptable trend of barbaric belief.

The government should be ashamed of itself for failing to address this huge problem and bring the country in line with modern and progressive practices.
