Homelessness is a national disease in need of a strong cure because of the burden it poses on society and the harm it does to the mental health effect it has on many of its sufferers.
Whichever party ins today’s election has a duty to address the crippling problem of homelessness in the country. There is no automatic solution or easy answer, but there are many steps that can be taken to address the issue.
The feeling of hopelessness and frustration that follows homelessness can be so debilitating that it eventually leads to some form of mental health illness, if it wasn’t already present. The hard reality is that anybody can become homeless given misfortune or in some cases a breakdown in relationships between partners. The most sad cases are those who were on a steady path but due to being laid off work or a revenge eviction end up on the streets.
Those whose homelessness are self inflicted are the ones on a down spiral of heavy drug addiction, alcoholism, or in most cases, both. The crazy cycle of addiction and lack of funds can be a sentence of its own. In a first world like the Uk, there shouldn’t be so many homeless people on the streets.
Many of these homeless people finance their awful habits with tax payer’s money and still beg on the streets for the hard earned cash of working people. The thought of drug addicts receiving tax payer’money to pay their landlords can be a recipe for disaster if they put their addiction first and lose their homes. The homeless should be forced to take courses, undergo rehabilitation if they are addicts, and be housed so they can lead normal lives.
The government has a role to play here by doing their best to force homeless people to try to make progress in their lives. Homeless people on the streets should be kept busy under supervision and not allowed to roam the streets and be a nuisance. It should not be too expensive to hire people to supervise the many homeless that gather in stupid numbers wasting their lives away.
Mental health is a major problem for many of the homeless because their life follows a vicious cycle of no positive direction. Many are forced to live with bad influences whose way of life and usual bunch of negative associates does little to give them hope.
