The head of England’s exams regulator, Sally Collier, has resigned over the A levels fiasco this year that saw thousands of students’ mark downgraded for exams they were unable to sit.
Ofqual chief Ms Collier faced severe criticism over a flawed algorithm which made many pupils experience reduced grades for their A-level marks even after their teachers had submitted predicted grades. The debacle led to many A-level students losing university places they had been offered, causing many of them heart ache. An eventual U turn by The Department Of Education rectified the problem
Dame Glenys Stacey will take her place on a temporary basis next stage of the exams until December, the Ofqual board said, alongside of Ofsted, Amanda Spielman, who previously worked at Ofqual.
