Gun Man And Former Builder Jailed Again After Police Car Chase

A man  on prison licence after threatening two police officers with a loaded sawn-off shotgun during a car chase across Bradford has been jailed again for dangerous driving.

Owen Parker was today jailed for 12 months after a high speed chase which continued after his tyres were deflated by a stinger device.

Parker, 28 fromWest Bowling, Bradford, sped off jumping red lights and clipping the kerb when officers tried to stop him at 2.30am on April 24.

Prosecutor Louise Pryke told Bradford Crown Court that the pursuit began in Pellon Lane, Halifax, and continued along Boothtown Road at 70mph.

Parker, a former builder, drove his Mistibushi shogun straight through two Give Way junctions towards Ovenden at 67mph over speed bumps on Nursery Lane and continued on the Ovenden Road dual carriageway,using both lanes at 70mph. Three police vehicles were now involved in the pursuit in which Parker went 93mph along Godley Lane and overtook a lorry on a blind bend.

Parker sped through Northowram Village and Shelf at 60mph, as his tyres emitted smoke and fragments of rubber coming from the tyres.

As his Shogun began sliding in the road , Parker and his passenger jumped out and ran off  when they realised they were cornered and their tyres were deflated. Both men were subsequently arrested and Parker was abusive and unco-operative. He declined to provide a specimen of breath and made no comment when he was questioned.

Mrs Pryke said he had four previous convictions for nine offences.

In 2007, he in court for aggravated vehicle taking and in January, 2017, he was jailed for five years and three months for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and dangerous driving. On that occasion, he had threatened two police officers with a loaded sawn-off shotgun during a car chase across Bradford.

On that occasion, he pointed the gun out of the window of his vehicle, speeding along Allerton Road at 10.45pm on Monday, August 29, 2016. An armed response team was immediatey called in, ending the pursuit with cops . The weapon was recovered from a wheelie bin on Oak Lane, and his abandoned Volvo was found on Thornton Lane, Manningham, and Parker were both eventually arrested  his fingerprints were found on the gun and the car. He was released from prison in June last year but was now recalled until February, 2021.

Judge Jonathan Gibson said: “It was a bad piece of dangerous driving at high speed.”
