Government scientists projection of Covid-19 deaths were far from realistic, new figures show
Coronavirus infections in the UK are increasing at a slower rate than necessary to match the worst-case scenario presented by Government scientists, media analysts have highlighted.
Projections by chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty, and Sir Patrick Vallance, the chief scientific adviser, that new cases could reach 50,000 per day by October are highly flawed, journalists say. Home news reporter for The Telegraph, Jessica Carpani, alongside her colleague Dominic Penna, rubbished predictions made by chief scientists advising the British government about the pandemic.
”If the projection were to come true the UK would now be seeing around 12,000 new infections a day, but the latest tally of daily lab-confirmed cases stands at 7,143, Ms Carparni jointly wrote with her colleague.
Carpani has been closely researching the coronavirus pandemic since the very first outbreak, flying to Milan to investigate the coronavirus outbreak back in March before the whole of Italy was eventually placed on lockdown.
Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will lead a Covid-19 press briefing at 5pm with Professor Whitty, in the wake of the highest number of daily coronavirus cases since the outbreak began.
MPs will also vote on the renewal of the Coronavirus Act’s powers in the Commons on Wednesday.
