Morrison Fulfils Online Orders For Amazon With1,000 New Jobs

By Jay Tavares-

Morrisons fulfilment of online orders for its services on Amazon. has led to the creation of 1,000 more jobs.

The increased employment  to meet the demand for grocery home shopping,  comes a day after the stock market value of Ocado, the online grocery specialist, overtook that of Tesco for the first time.

Morrisons said it was hiring extra staff to pick and pack customer orders from over 50 stores, covering most major UK cities and many towns.

Morrisons  earlier this month  revealed the employment of 45,000 temporary staff to cope with extra demand as the pandemic gathered pace, with 25,000 still in post of whom 6,000 had now been made permanent.

Britain’s fourth biggest supermarket, now into partnerships with Ocado and Amazon, will enable the placement of more orders.

The doorstep delivery service is set to allow students to pick from five different food boxes.

Hungry students can choose from Meat Essentials, Vegetarian Essentials, Easy Meals for the Week and the Big Night In box.

The initiative will first launch at the Birley and Cambridge Halls at Manchester Met University – where around 1,500 students have been asked to self-isolate – before rolling out to other universities.

Hannah Horsfall, head of Amazon at Morrisons, said: “At Morrisons, we’re doing everything we can to ensure everyone can order our great value food and have it delivered to their doorstep. We’re looking for team players, with good customer service skills that can play their full part in helping to feed the nation.”
