FURY WITH NATIONWIDE BANK FOR SEVERAL LETTERS TO A DEAD MAN REQUESTING PAYMENT OF DEBTS

BY JAMES SIMONS

A dead man has been continuously sent letters from Nationwide bank asking for payment of debts, despite friends and family of the dead man informing the bank of his death. Jeff Shepherd, 50, was brutally murdered in Westcliff Essex, after the alleged killer warned of his intention to kill the victim for playing loud music in the house. Eye of media has learnt that the killer claimed to be hearing voices in his head telling him to kill the victim.

The property in Beedell Avenue was shared by a number of residents given a lifeline by St. Saviours Housing organisation- a charity organisation that helps individuals plagued with complex issues that often include drugs, alcohol and mental issues. However, police were called to the house 16 times last year for burglary, assault, criminal damage, and a machete attack. The final straw came when Jeff Shepherd was battered to death with weapon. 46year old Carly Dayley is currently on remand, charged with his murder, and the case is due to be heard in January. His distraught family are still coming to terms with his death, but letter demanding payment of bills have been coming through the post.

A resident of the house, Peter Jarvis, told The eye of Media ” the bank have been told several times that he man is dead and they should stop sending letters asking for money. Its like trying to get blood out of a stone. I don’t know which part of dead they don’t understand, the D at the front or the one at the end”. All these people care about is money, they have been told several times that the man is gone. How thick are they?”. Since the killing, the property has been put up for sale with Jarvis, the only man from the original set still leaving there. ”Everyone else has left since the murder, and I am here alone picking up the pieces. This house has been haunted ever since Jeff’s murder, we hear all sorts of noises here, and a female friend of mine who stayed the night here one night described seeing someone hanging in the air who fitted Jeff’s description.”

When we contacted Nationwide’s press section in Southend On Sea with the story, they declined the comment. Probably because they had no tenable excuse, but we certainly hope the dead man’s former address will receive no more letters asking for debts from a dead man.
