Extinction Rebellion Protests Bring Westminster To Standstill Over Envitonmental Change

By Ben Kerrigan-

Extinction Rebellion protesters have brought Westminster to a standstill, after 20 people were arrested at the beginning of a series of protests demanding government action on environmental change.

Activists have taking their protests to  Berlin, Amsterdam and Sydney. They are demanding urgent government action on climate change. Groups of demonstrators shut down roads around Parliament and Whitehall, with vehicles and bikes, and banners reading “tell the truth” and “No coal mines, no fracking”.

Organisers set out to shut down key sites in central London, whilst demonstrating outside government departments.
Extinction Rebellion expect protests in London to be five times bigger than similar events in April. The protests are calling for urgent action on global climate and wildlife emergencies.
