ENGLAND BEAT GERMANY IN CLASSIC PERFORMANCE

ENGLAND BEAT GERMANY IN CLASSIC PERFORMANCE

BY Tim Parsons

England produced a marvelous display to come back from behind and beat Germany the way they did yesterday.

The way England was trailing Germany by 2 goals after 58 mins, it seemed far fetched to imagine them coming back to equalize, talk less of score a victory in the dying moments of the game.

Such victory is encouraging for our players and our country, though this is no guarantee or indication of future success in world tournaments. Many still remember the 5-1 victory against Germany in 2001- an outstanding result that failed to reflect similar class in the world cup of the following year when Argentina dumped us out of the competition with just 10 men. However, it offers some hope that we may be able to pull it off this time on the world stage.

GREAT PERFORMANCE

‘We’ve got an awful long way to go before we can claim to be like the Germans with what they’ve achieved in the last few years,’  Hodgson said after the impressive win.

‘But it was a great performance. It showed character, but also a lot of quality in terms of our passing, poise and movement. We created a lot of chances, so pleased for the players and that we have carried on from where we left off against France in such a wonderful iconic arena against the world champions.’

The young England’s side attacked with energy and self belief, creating so many opportunities that made the team look more dangerous than ever. This performance may not even be an accurate reflection of what to expect  with Wayne Rooney in the equation. The absent captain will blend well with this kind of team if they can maintain this kind of performance, but also improve their defense.

Two excellent goals from Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy, were testament to their outstanding skill and call for more moments like this in the future. Both players are one of England’s best assets. Welbeck is also a striking player we must never forget. He provided good team work and excellent play throughout this game. It surely remains to be seen if England will capitalize on this performance to the to the European Championships this year where the best teams compete for the top prize.

 WORLD BEATERS

Germany are established world beaters on the world stage, and generally deliver the goods on big games where it matters most. Perhaps the English side will begin to gather the sort of strong morale they need to replicate this kind of performance and results on international games.
