President Donald Trump has been predictably acquitted in his impeachment trial, drawling a line over efforts to oust him from the White House.
The Senate, run by the president’s fellow Republicans, voted to acquit him 52-48 on charges of abuse of power and 53-47 on obstruction of Congress. Mr Trump was charged in December with withdrawing military funding from Ukraine. Prominent members of the senate argued that it was for the American public to judge the president by making their feelings known i the 2020 elections. They argued that the charges against the president did not warrant being thrown out of office.
In a statement after the vote, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said the president’s acquittal is a “full vindication and exoneration” of Trump. Romney, said in a tearful speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday that he felt compelled by the oath he swore in Trump’s case to act on his conviction that the president’s actions were “grievously wrong.”
He is believed to be the first senator in history to vote to convict in the impeachment trial of a president of his own party. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and her members were never optimistic of a successful outcome, but said they concluded that Trump’s conduct in the Ukraine saga left them no choice but to follow their convictions. Pelosi said in a statement:
“Sadly, because of the Republican Senate’s betrayal of the Constitution, the president remains an ongoing threat to American democracy, with his insistence that he is above the law and that he can corrupt the elections if he wants to,” Pelosi said.

Mr Trump was caught trying to condition the president of Ukraine to investigate a claim that the younger Biden improperly held a board position with a Ukrainian natural gas firm while his father was US vice-president and in charge of American-Ukrainian relations. Democrats accused Mr Trump of abusing his power and disregarding the U.S Constitution by withholding $391m (£300m) in security aid to the Ukraine’s president, unless he dug up dirt on Biden,
Alarm from a whistle blower forced an investigation evaluated mainly on partisan lines which resulted in the impeachment of the 45th president, but not the removal of office. Trump will stay in power and seek to appeal to the American public. His rating among the public has oscillated; his slogan of America first attracting a sizeable part of America from the start. His critics are not few, but those who like the U.S president say he speaks his mind and keeps his word.
His troubles from the Mueller report and its associated allegations encourage espionage by a foreign entity (Russia} to smear a political candidate(Hilary Clinton) and claims he used election funds to pay off the likes off Stormy Daniels to the allegation of grosse improper conduct have been relentless. All eyes will be on how Trump fares in the next elections, but the political war he has with Democrats will continue at some level. Trump remains in charge,
