John Bercow To Be Investigated For Bullying In Bid To Stop Peerage

By Ben Kerrigan-

Ex Parliamentary official, David Leakey  will be filing a complaint to the Parliamentary Commissioner accusing former speaker of the house, John Bercow of bullying and intimidating behaviour during his time as speaker. His complaint will be submitted in the form of a dossier, the former parliamentarian said.

The plans to file the complaint p come in the wake of proposals by Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn to give Bercow a peerage. But like an objector at an important wedding, mr.Lesakey has strongly objected to grasnting the ex Commons Speaker a peerage, insisting that mr Bercow created a climate of “fear and intimidation” in the Commons. David Leakey, who was responsible for keeping order in the House of Lords, also told BBC Newsnight he had seen “bullying and unreasonable” behaviour by Bercow

Mr. Leakey is the second official to accuse the Speaker of bullying. Mr Bercow’s ex-private secretary also  accused him of “angry outbursts”. Mr Leakey, who served as Black Rod until 2017, said he had a disagreement with Mr Bercow over seating arrangements for a “high profile visit” at Westminster.

He said “the red mist descended” on Mr Bercow who “banged the table, yelled and was highly insulting to me personally”.

Mr Leakey said the speaker called him an “anti-Semite” for which Mr Bercow later apologised. An angry Mr Bercow told Sky News the claims were “total and utter rubbish”.

He said Mr Leakey was “not employed by me, he wasn’t an employee of the House of Commons”.”He is in absolutely no position whatsoever to comment on my relations with my parliamentary colleagues, of which he is completely and utterly ignorant.

“What we have got here is somebody who left the House, who is thrashing about, desperate to remain relevant, popping up at every turn, trying to make himself seem very important, very centre-stage, very at the heart of things in the way that I went about my work.”

The objection will mean that the Parliamentary Commissioner first examines the compliant when the dossier is submitted.
