A quiet cul-de-sac in Bradford has been rocked by a gruesome discovery, as police arrest suspects following the shocking revelation of a “burned body” found in the back garden of a “highly reclusive” family’s home.
West Yorkshire police has this evening named the man locally as David.
Neighbours on Shetland Close were thrust into a state of disbelief when piercing screams pierced the tranquility of their surroundings, followed by billowing smoke emanating from the garden of a detached family residence.
A neighbour who rushed to Shetland Close Bradford reported hearing “screaming, yelling, and shouting” while washing his car at around 3.15pm on Tuesday.
Unable to breach the locked gate, they bore witness to a scene straight out of a nightmare – a “badly mangled” body engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders swiftly descended upon the scene, with police, firefighters, and ambulance crews converging on the property. Despite their valiant efforts, the discovery of a deceased male shook the community to its core.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the arrest of a 52-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
The suspects remain in custody as the investigation unfolds, with authorities assuring the public that they are not seeking additional suspects in connection with the incident.
The grim discovery has left residents reeling, with many expressing disbelief at the unprecedented turn of events. Descriptions of the family as “highly reclusive” and seldom seen outside their home have only deepened the sense of bewilderment surrounding the case.
Speculation runs rampant as residents come to terms with the sudden intrusion of tragedy into their tranquil community.
Police in Bradford launched a murder probe on Wednesday following the grim discovery.
Pictures show visible charring and fire damage to ground floor windows of the house, with at least six forensics officers, clothed in white protective suits, were seen combing the property for clues.
Now police have issued a statement urging against online gossip surrounding the tragic case after they arrested a man in connection.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “From the information known at this time, we are treating this as a murder investigation.
“My team are working to establish the circumstances that led to the man’s death. We have two people in custody and are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“This has taken place in what is usually a quiet residential street. I understand that this incident has caused concern in the wider community and there is a lot of speculation about what has taken place and those involved. We need anyone with information to be passing that on to us.
“We are conducting house to house enquiries and CCTV trawls in the area, and I would urge anyone with information, who has not already spoken to the police, to please make contact.
The property backs on to Goals sports complex, King’s Road, Bradford, and we are also urging anyone who was using the pitches yesterday afternoon who may have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary to please report it.”
The magnitude of the emergency response, including a sprawling police cordon and a fleet of emergency vehicles, shows the gravity of the situation and the urgency of the ongoing investigation.
For the close-knit community of Shetland Close, the shocking events of Tuesday afternoon have shattered their sense of security and left them grappling with unanswered questions.
