Come back boxer, David Haye, came in at a careers heavy of 16 stonne 3 at the 02 Arena, giving away a stone to Mark De Mori, who came in at 17 stone 5 inches for their heavyweight clash tomorrow.
In what is Haye’s first comeback fight in 3 years, this weight is closer to what many have always considered ideal for Haye, who has always been viewed as a blown up cruiser weight, not a natural heavyweight. The former WBA champion has always come in less than 16 stone- a factor that squandered his chances in 2009 against former world champion, Wladimir Klitschko.
However, he was still able to blow out fringe contender, Derek Chisora, after five engaging rounds, and demolish Audley Harrison in 3 rounds. Haye is seeking to regain the world championship belt and keenly has explosive Anthony Joshua in his sights later this year, in what will be a money spinning fight for both fighters.
Most boxing fans will tip Joshua to beat Haye, but the reality is that Haye is a clever fighter with experience and explosive power blended with speed. He will be a very dangerous opponent for Joshua, and so will Joshua be for him. On speculation alone, Haye will most likely knock Joshua’s lights out at this stage, but this judgment is reasonable calculated speculation.
First, we will need to say how Haye fares in this fight. The chances are that Haye will knock out this Aussie in what could turn out to be a spectacular fight, but Haye’s rival will definitely make a go of the fight. After this victory, Haye knows that even if he goes past Joshua, he will have to contend with the likes of Fury and Wilder if he really wants to capture the big prize. In that sense, he has come in at the right weight, if he is in good condition and fit at that weight.
”I’ve been performing my with the additional weight. I’m not as ripped as I was but it’s not a body building competition.
‘I’m more focused on performance, more focused on punch variety, speed and I definitely feel that you’ll see a new and improved me.”. If this is true, and we have no reason to doubt Haye, He might be even more dangerous than ever.
