By Aaron Miller-
Congressman David Cecilline The Rhode Island Democratic lawmaker, has been subjected to severe threats over his lead of the second impeachment of president Trump.
Cecilline who is leading impeachment efforts, has previously served as the 36th Mayor of Providence from 2003 and 2011.
Ceceline is is co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, is lead sponsor of the articles of impeachment going before the House of Representatives, which charge Trump with “Incitement of Insurrection” over the storming of the US Capitol. He insists president Trump should be made accountable for the attack in Capitol Hill, and would like see him impeached immediately.
The immediate removal of the president cannot happen through an impeachment process, unless all the conventional procedures are accelerated.
As the impeachment measure was introduced in the House on Monday, Cicilline received a deluge of violent and hateful threats.
Voicemail messages, aired by CNN after being shared with law enforcement, reveal anonymous callers branding Cicilline a “little b***h”, warning him: “You’ve got 80 f**king million people coming after you, you commie little f**ks.”
Another threatens: “If you impeach him, civil war is on, buddy.”
The threats are being taken seriously in a country that has no shortage of crazy people prepared to go to extreme lengths in the name of patriotism. Lawmakers are hoping to remove Trump from office to avoid further damage
Vice president, Mike Pence was yesterday given 24 hours to use the 25th amendment to get Trump out of office, by using the 25th amendment, but reports yesterday suggest that the vice president and president Trump spoke for the first time yesterday, and the pair are trying to make peace.
Impeachment has now been taken up as the next alternative, and conviction in the Senate requires a two-thirds majority. It makes it a bit of an order with 50 of the 100 lawmakers , coming from the Republican party. Cecilline is fairly confident impeachment will be achieved.
