New top gear presenter, Chris Evans, will hold auditions to find a co-host to join him on Top Gear, and is asking members of the public with a passion for cars to apply for the post.
.
Evans told viewers on BBC1’s One Show last night: “Male, female, old, young, it doesn’t matter. The one thing that does matter is you’ve got to have a real appetite for cars, and you’ve got to know something about cars.
“The way James (May) and Richard (Hammond) were found was by auditioning, so we are going to hold auditions, not just for famous people, for people who are watching the show.”
Anyone who wants to appear on the show must make a short video, lasting no longer than 30 seconds, to post on a website.
The website address will be released on Friday morning.
The English presenter and businessman who started his broadcasting career working for Piccadilly Radio as a teenager later graduating to present for the BBC’s greater London and then Channel 4, added spice to his highly anticipated new post by revealing to Radio 5 that he was referring to model Jodie Kidd.
However, it seems he wants a wide pool of contenders, but we hope the BBC don’t do is make it appear like an audition when the winner for the post has already been determined. That would be wholly wrong, it will be interesting to see what this auditions really are about
An open invitation may produce a new television star, though it would seem highly unlikely that Evans and the BBC are really looking to give a random viewer the chance of a lifetime. If this was Evans idea, unapproved by the BBC, then the BBC have only a limited time to set the record straight/ As things stand top gear might be moving to the next level.
