Current Prime Minister, David Cameron, was smart in his mockery of Milliband’s decision to involve himself with Russell Brand. He remarked ”He is funny, right? It’s funny, but you know politics and life and elections and jobs and the economy-it’s not a joke. Russell Brand is a joke. Ed Milliband hangs out with Russell Brand-he is a joke. This is not funny, it is about the elections. This is about the future, this is about jobs, about the economy, about the recovery. I haven’t got time to hang out with Russell Brand. This is more important. These are real people. They are what the elections is all about”.
Milliband attempted to rebut Cameron’s mockery by saying he would go out to challenge those who say voting does not make a difference. He said “I will tell you what is a joke is saying this election is about leadership and then refusing to debate. I am surprised by David Cameron, I just think he is totally out of touch. Some people have said this campaign is boring so I have decided to make it more interesting. “The serious point to this is as follows: there are millions of people in our country who are not looking at this election, who are nor listening to this election, and think voting does not make a difference.” Brand was once asked to stand for Parliament during a BBC question time show, and said he would like to but was scared he would ”become one of them”.
Milliband is right that voting does make a difference, and we also make him right that Cameron’s evasion of an open important debate was a minus on his part. He made Milliband look like the leader. However, Cameroon scored a bit of a knock out blow with his smart connection of Russell Brand being a joke since the Comedian’s essential job is to make people laugh and he is damn well good at it. Election is a serious matter and not a joke, like Cameron rightfully said. It may well be that Milliband may equalize if the interview turns out to be serious because although Brand is a funny man, he does have a serious side. Both leaders can be commended for actually making the election day interesting, thanks to the inclusion of Russell Brand
