AMIR KHAN SIDESTEPS KELLY BROOKS TO FACE TOUGH ALVAREZ IN MAY

BY TIM PARSONS

British boxer, Amir Khan, has announced he will fight Mexico’s Saul Alvarez for the WBC world middleweight title on 7 May in Las Vegas.

Several boxing fans have been waiting to see Khan face big puncher, Kelly Brook, but Khan who was once a light-welterweight world champion has clearly chosen to avoid him perhaps because of the big risk of getting knocked out as well as the damage defeat may to Brooks may do to his ego given the animosity between them that has built up over the years.

However, Khan who has not fought since outpointing Chris Algieri in New York in May, is still in a risky fight that could possibly burst his bubble. We can’t forget that 25 year old Alvarez beat tough Miguell Cotto by a unanimous points decision to win the title in November, showing himself to be a top player in the division

.

Alvarez has only one defeat in a 48 fight career and will be confident of defending his title successfully against Khan who has been brutally knocked out twice . This is a dangerous fight for Khan, but one he most definitely considers less dangerous than fighting really dangerous puncher, Kelly Brook.

The pair will fight at a catch weight of 155lb- two divisions higher than his usual weight against Algieri and a jump of two weight divisions. If Khan is successful in winning this title, any further avoidance of Brook will begin to look really bad on him.A real  world class fighter avoids nobody, though his next fight will be a real challenge.
