BY JAMES SIMONS

The Farmington Police Department in America  released body cam video footage on Thursday that shows the violent struggle on Sept. 6 between Officer David Rock, and Heriberto Nava-Martinez at San Juan Regional Medical Center moments before the man was shot by the officer.

The  officer can be seen engaging in a conversation with Martinez in Spanish outside a hospital room shortly after 10pm within an hour  of the police department arresting Nava-Martinez on allegations he crashed a stolen pickup truck through the front gates of a Farmington business, before driving it recklessly up and down East Main Street.

The 23 year old  was subsequently transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center after the incident to be tested for drugs and alcohol. He later was found to have tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.

TUSSLE

Not long after,  Nava-Martinez can be seen lunging at the officer, which leads to  a tussle whilst the officer calls for reinforcement. Next, the officer fires three rounds at Nava-Martinez in two separate incidents as he charges at the officer and then runs away from him.

“Stop! Stop!” Rock can be heard yelling in the video, after shooting Nava-Martinez once. “You cannot go for my gun! Get down! Get down!”

Nava-Martinez eventually drops to the floor while screaming and is handcuffed by the officer who then calls for a doctor. An activated taser then appears in the video on the floor near Nava-Martinez. San Juan County Chief Deputy District Attorney Dustin O’Brien has expressed his backing for the cops shooting, claiming it was justified in his view. Police in America have a bad reputation for killing individuals, though it seems this guy was lucky to escape with his life ava-Martinez is expected to be arraigned in district court on Dec. 14 on charges of assault with intent to commit a violent felony, attempted armed robbery, vehicle theft, two counts of felony vandalism and disarming a peace officer and other, lesser offenses
