Actor Idris Elba has condemned the perpetrators of knife crime, who he said should stab themselves rather than others, and stop making their communities “look stupid” .
The star took the lead by setting a much needed example in condemning knife crime which said that young people tempted to stab another person should instead turn the blade on themselves “because you’re stabbing your future”. Elba’s intervention comes after a chief constable, said judges to dish out tough sentences on those caught carrying blades
The top officer’s recommendation on Friday comes after a teenager stabbed in West Kensington became the 17th person killed by a knife in London in 2019 alone. The epidemic is becoming a serious crises, and calls for urgent action. Members of The Eye Of Media.Com spent over two hours today discussing this one topic at a property in Beckton, East London, as we explored all the root causes of knife crime.
This included speaking to random teenagers to learn all the different reasons besides the obvious, why knife crime is happening at such an alarming rate in the capital. Many have connected the rise in knife crime to falling numbers of police officers, but there are deeper root causes to be identified and addressed.
The number of police officers across the forces in England and Wales has fallen by more than 20,000 since 2009, but this does not provide evidence for the rise in knife crimes.
Elba, who is born in London, has set a successful acting career for himself in the U.S, but finds the rising statistics of knife crime disturbing
He said: “Knife crime is not new. I grew up in the Eighties and there was knife crime back then, between blacks and whites.
“And now it’s definitely between young black men in small, tiny communities. And it’s affecting everyone, we all look stupid.
“You look even more stupid, if you’ve got a knife, or you know someone that’s got a knife, tell them to stab themselves right now, trust me. Because you’re just going to stab your future if you go and stab someone else.
“You become a murderer, you go to prison, you ain’t got shxx. For what? For some beef that lives within your community. You need to see past that.”Elba urged his fellow stars to join him in an appeal to persuade people to put down their blades.
He said: “We have to say something about it as well, entertainers that are out there, there’s young people that look up to us, man, we need to just vocalise this. Send a message out saying put the knives down. It’s dumb. It’s dumb
“We don’t need to be killing ourselves. We have so much more we can offer. And you’re going to kill your future, you’re going to kill someone else’s future, and it’s dumb.
“Entertainers, do me a favour man, put out similar videos, let’s try and put out something and say that we care for our communities. Stop the knife crime please.
