Absent Brexit voters are giving away the lead to the Remain side on current polls conducted by the Evening Standard.
The final pre-polling day poll, by Ipsos-Mori, gave the Remain camp a four point lead. It is the first published while voting was taking place. All the final phone polls showed remain in the lead, but one of the online polls show leave in the lead.
Many working class potential voters are in the pub drinking instead of voting, but leave campaigners have been driving around in many parts of Britain, that include West Yorkshire, London, and Essex, announcing reminders on megaphones for people to vote for brexit
Realistically, people should have been forced to vote in pubs and benefit offices before those on welfare are allowed to sign on. This would have been one way to ensure we get everybody’s vote.
However, a number of people have told the eye of media.com that they will not vote because they do not want their name of the register’s roll because it is made public. People avoiding bailiffs, or people knowing where they live. have opted not to vote, a disturbing revelation for the leave camp if there are many of such people who don’t vote.
Torrential rain and chaos, may also have played it’s role in putting some off from making the journey to vote, though this is not excusable. It may simply be an unfortunate reality that some people are ruled by the emotions on the day, and how they respond to weather conditions. Expectation of a Remain victory amongst some investors have been reflected in the exchange rate changes in the last 24 hours.
The pound hit a new high, in expectations from investors that the Remain group will win. The pound and FTSE100 surged in the morning, fell back in the afternoon, before rallying again later, falling just short of the peaks during morning trading.
An email by vote leave warning of a referendum decided by voters in London and Scotland, despite the heartlands of the country voting for brexit, has been heavily criticized.
The email included a a photo of a queue outside a polling station captioned a “leafy London suburb”. Labour MP Chuka Umunna, a member of the official remain campaign, said the message was divisive, describing it as “utterly disgraceful”. If vote Remain wins, it will be because absent Brexit-ers gave them the lead.
The votes can still sway anytime, until the closing of votes at at midnight. All the bitter wranglings and campaigns, will finally bring a result. Most ordinary brits I know want to see Britain out of the EU, though many in minority groups are known to favor Britain staying in. Immigration has been the leading issue on the mind of many voters, with the economy being of most concern in many other groups.
It is generally believed that most ordinary Brits want out, though there are many that want to Remain too. The number of votes cast do not always reflect the will of the people, but may rather reflect the numbers that come out to vote to remain or leave.
