Palestine Action claimed to be behind the soaking of the doors in paint. They released a statement which said the reason behind the act was to symbolise the BBC’s ‘complicity in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people through biased reporting’.

The statement read: ‘Today, Palestine Action sprayed the BBC’s Headquarters with blood red paint, in response to it’s recent coverage of Palestine, which has been complicit in manufacturing consent for the occupation’s genocide of Palestinians.’

It equally targeted the BBC’s Hanover Building in Liverpool city centre by spraying it with red paint to depict its alleged “complicity in spilling Palestinian blood”.

However, the Metropolitan Police has clarified that the vandalism at Broadcasting House is not yet linked to any specific protest groups.

The dramatic act of vandalism unfolded as hundreds of protesters gathered outside BBC headquarters on Saturday. They joined a major pro-Palestinian march taking place in the capital, voicing their support for Palestine amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

In a display of solidarity, participants waved Palestine flags and carried placards with supportive messages. Chants echoed through the crowd, creating a powerful atmosphere outside the BBC’s renowned headquarters.

In order to ensure public safety and order, more than 1,000 police officers were deployed to manage the thousands of individuals showing support for Palestine.

BBC presenters, heading to work at the Broadcasting House on Saturday, were confronted with a surreal scene. The revolving glass doors and pale stone brickwork at Portland Place, where the headquarters is located, were doused in red paint.

Presenter Victoria Derbyshire took to social media, sharing photos and videos of the shocking aftermath that greeted her upon arrival. The striking imagery captured the extent of the vandalism and its vivid impact on the iconic building.

This incident underscores the volatile climate surrounding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and the heightened emotions it has ignited. The controversy surrounding the BBC’s editorial stance has made it a focal point for public opinion and protests. While the police investigation is ongoing, it serves as a reminder of the importance of free and open discourse, even in the face of strongly held convictions.

The BBC, as a global news organization, plays a pivotal role in covering international events, including those in the Middle East. However, this role often brings with it a spotlight and a share of controversy, as it deals with reporting on complex issues that evoke deep passions on all sides.
