As the culinary world waits with bated breath, the countdown to November intensifies, inviting all to witness the rebirth of a culinary luminary and savor the magic he conjures on each plate.

The 48-year-old’s latest venture, Jamie Oliver Catherine Street, will mark the foodie polymath’s return to the UK restaurant business since his chain of Italian restaurants collapsed four years ago.

The 130-cover restaurant, which has an additional 30 seats on its terrace, will use suppliers such as Flourish Produce, Westcombe Dairy, and Wild Card Brewery to create some of Jamies most loved dishes and as well as new recipes available only to try at Jamie Oliver Catherine Street.

The restaurant will see Jamie work alongside a high-calibre team, including head chef Chris Shail, who has worked with Oliver for eight years.

Pastry chef Emma Jackson has also joined the project, after working in kitchens at Soho Farmhouse and Petersham Nurseries.

General manager Caezer Cruz has worked with Jamie for 16-years and will head up the front of house team.

Jamie, who grew up in a family of publicans, first announced he had a project brewing in November, he revealed his new restaurant’s logo on an Instagram post yesterday, Thursday, August 10.

Writing on Instagram, Oliver said the menu would reflect his love “of Britain’s rich and diverse food culture” and champion “independent producers and suppliers”.

He added: “I am SO happy to announce my return to the UK restaurant industry that I love so dearly with my new place @jamieolivercatherinest!!

“My hope is that Catherine Street will be a wonderfully welcoming, happy place to dine, with great service, and delicious food at its heart. To say I’m excited is an understatement! Hope to see you at Catherine Street later this year.”

The opening comes four years after the collapse of the chef’s UK restaurant arm saw the closure of the Jamie’s Italian chain, as well as the Barbecoa and Fifteen brands.

It has not been confirmed if the Catherine Street launch will be the first of several new UK openings for the chef but Kevin Styles, chief executive of the Jamie Oliver Group, told the Sunday Times in May that it formed part of a five-year plan for the business.

Respected restaurateur Jeremy King joined the board of Jamie Oliver Group in an advisory role earlier this year.

Speaking on the News Agents podcast last month, Oliver said he hadn’t “lost faith” in the restaurant industry and that he was still a “restaurateur at heart”.

He added: “I’m still young-ish, got 10 years of good work in me yet, I think. So, I’m opening back up…and what’s beautiful is the greatest hits of all my team are coming back without having to advertise, so we’re going to get the band back together.”

Chris Shail, who worked alongside the broadcaster and author for eight years, will be head chef, while Emma Jackson, formerly of Soho Farmhouse and Petersham Nurseries, is to lead on pastry.

The celebrity will work with both  men to create a menu that reflects Britain’s “rich and diverse food culture,” press material said, championing its independent suppliers.

An “accessible” menu will include past favourites of Oliver’s, as well as new ones created for the restaurant. The food, we’re told, will be more in homage to the pub classics — he is the son of Essex publicans — he grew up cooking, rather than the Italian dishes that helped make his name.

Oliver said: “I’m extraordinarily excited to be opening Jamie Oliver Catherine Street in the heart of Covent Garden, and stepping back into the UK restaurant industry that I love so dearly. It feels like an opportunity to celebrate where I’ve come from, and I’ll be sharing dishes inspired by the food that’s shaped me, dishes that I grew up cooking on the line.

“My hope is that Jamie Oliver Catherine Street will be a wonderfully welcoming, happy place to dine, with great service, and delicious food at its heart.

“We’ll be going big on daily specials and have a robust menu that offers something for everyone. It definitely feels like a pivotal moment in my career, and some of the very best of my restaurant teams over the years have come back to join me on this next part of the journey.

“To say I’m excited is an understatement.”
