Newly released quotes from Tyson Fury reveal the Wbc champion never believed Oleksandr Usyk was a big enough fight to take, and felt the heavyweight title should always remain in America or Britain, not Ukraine.
After long running talks between both camps fell through last night, historic quotes from the loud mouthed gypsy king surfaced which suggests he did never wanted the fight.
The revelation will come as a shock to fight fans who always had Fury as the big favourite to defeat Usyk in their now aborted world unification showdown, but Usyk has always emerged against the odds, like he did against Joshua who was originally favourite to successfully defend his belts.
A world champion at cruiser weight who repeated his conquest at heavyweight, Usyk is a man to underestimate at one’s peril.
Fury also berated the undefeated talented world heavyweight champion when he said he doesn’t speak very good English and he is a foreigner in a westernised world.
After a proposed fight between the pair fell through this week with the two parties unable to a agree a deal, Usyk’s agent Egis Klimas Fury kept making more demands which made reaching a compromise impossible.
Todaythe wife of humble Usyk mocked the gypsy king by calling him the Gypsy Queen
The quotes released by The Sun reveal Fury’s response when asked about a potential clash, Fury responded saying: “Usyk ain’t on the list. He’s a no-name, no-one’s interested and it won’t make any money.
”He’s a small cruiserweight. A foreign [who] doesn’t speak good English and nobody’s really interested anyway he’s not set anything alight.
“I want the big fights that people are interested in and that ain’t one of them. He’s still a foreigner in a westernised world.
“The belts are back in the west and they’re going to stay there. Whatever it sounds like the heavyweight champion should be from Britain or America and nowhere else.
“Because maybe it Ukraine he might be a big star but Britain or America ain’t interested in some Ukrainian boxer boxing in Ukraine.
Now , the big hitting former Wbc champion, Deontey Wilder, licking his licks at the fresh opportunity of regaining the belt he lost to Fury, has offered to step in and fight Usyk after talks with Fury break down
But dangerous Wilder may need to first offer Daniel Dubois step-aside money if he is to get another quick crack at his former title.
Another undefeated heavyweight, Joe Joyce, who holds a stoppage win over Dubois in a very close contest said it would be frustrating to see Dubois get a title shot ahead of him. Joyce has never ducked any heavyweight, and would happily have a crack at Usyk, who holds a victory over him in the amateurs.
Fury who has always claimed to be the greatest heavyweight boxer is in danger of not even being regarded s the greatest of his time if the fight is never resurrected.
It is the first time, Fury has ever been perceived to be ducker a fighter.
Most fight fans have always considered Fury the best fighter of his generation, but unless he finds away round the present stalemate negotiations, more people will begin to imagine that despite his huge height and size advantages over Usyk, it may just be that the giant heavyweight has become cold feet and seen the possibility of a shock defeat that most people hadn’t yet seen.
