Autistic researchers are celebrating Elon Musk’s twitter takeover and sustained elevation on the global scale. The fact Musk is autistic is not widely known but academics believe raising awareness of this will improve attitudes towards autism.
Musk’s extraordinary accomplishments in life is underpinned by the fact the billionaire is the richest man in the world and has demonstrated a unique ability which dwarfs those of many extremely talented people. Much is now being attributed to him being autistic, though his level of autism varies from other levels which can be higher and more complex.
Research by psychologists suggest that alleles for autism overlap broadly with alleles for high intelligence, despite misconceptions in some circles that autistic people are generally of below average intelligence. Attributes like increased sensory and visual-spatial abilities, increased attention focus and high sensory abilities, and high socio-economic activities have been established to be embodied in many cases of autism.
Researchers also believe the development of intelligence can be affected, by genes or environments, in the opposite direction, toward higher levels of functioning, and changes that results in balanced enhancements in all of the components of high intellect, general intelligence cam also be influenced.
Autism is defined by academics as a neurodevelopmental disorder that involves deficits in social interaction and social communication but yet is believed to be associated with enhanced, but imbalanced, components of intelligence. This hypothesis is supported by convergent evidence showing that autism and high IQ.
The research is supported by convergent evidence showing that autism and high IQ share a diverse set of convergent correlates, including large brain size, fast brain growth, increased sensory and visual-spatial abilities, enhanced synaptic functions. It also provides a separate insight into autism as ‘dysregulated intelligence’.
While disregulation describes people who are unable to control their emotions in the same way as others, researcher Daniel Oberhaus points out The Conversation.Com that Musk is neither representative of the autistic population nor the general one. He is fundamentally very different in every way.
Researcher Oberhaus explains that it is possible that the bullying Musk experienced throughout his life explains why he is so defensive and combative on Twitter. He also points out that the tendency to be highly dedicated to specific areas of interest which often outclasses those who are not autistic.
Described by his mother as a young genius, Musk was bullied a lot as a young child for being very different, but he long nurtured remarkably high occupational aspirations which has achieved great exploits.
Experts believe Musk serves as a shining example of the innate talent in many autistic people, which could simply take more commitment and tenacity to achieve their full talent since talent is enhanced by a regular commitment to the nurturing and enhancement of genetic abilities. Failure to nurture talents with sufficient attention and interest will always restrict its development.
