By Martin Cole-

A nationwide mass movement is Nigeria has kicked off among the youths to mobilize grassroots awareness and support for a respected former state  governor, Peter Obi, as their preferred choice for President of Nigeria.

In what is building up to be one of the most  tense election contests in the history of Nigeria, thousands of youths are already devising strategies to try and secure their preferred candidate, after decades of false promising which has seen Africa’s riches country still in pieces for the majority of ordinary citizens.

Most young Nigerians, who now see Peter Obi- a man with an impeccable history, having  been one of the very few governor known never to have stolen money during his time of leadership.

Obi, who was the Governor of Anambra State of Nigeria between 2006 and 2014 and· Honorary Special Adviser to the President on Finance until May 2015, is highly respected among many honourable Nigerians. He is regarded as the man to take Nigeria out of its present gutter.

Young Nigerians  are largely unhappy that the two major political parties, PDP and APC, chose former Vice President Abubakar Atiku and a prominent political godfather, APC Leader and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as respective flagbearers.

An incredible number of youths are plotting  what they hope is a strategic plan to mobilize  Nigerians to take to the poll and vote Peter Obi as their choice. The youths are worried about the prospects of another force of Fulani extraction coming into power and recycling the same or slightly modified version of the Nigeria that existed under Buhari’s regime.

Atiku is a political veteran with high business acumen, and the possibility of him becoming president has frightened young Nigerians to fight and oppose him.

Atiku’s candidacy has been pursued against the known practice of zoning, that the presidency should revert to the south , given  Buhari’s two terms which concludes in May 2023. candidacy that appears to have the full backing of the northern political establishment, and one that has been pursued in open defiance of the understanding that the presidency should revert to the south after Buhari’s two terms in office in May 2023

Several online forums have been established to determine the best strategy to deliver what many youths hope will lead to one of the biggest breakthroughs in Nigerian politics

Many of the youths are amalgamating  and using electronic and analogue media to reach a wider audience, breaking language and religious barriers, grassroots door-to-door campaigning, volunteering and  doing anything that will help build the image of Peter Obi .

In a well-attended Twitter Spaces discussion, monitored last night, which had over 60,000 people tuning in, and an average of 5,000 people listening every minute for over three hours, speakers were heard sharing ideas on what strategies could best help win the election for Peter Obi. The Spaces was hosted by respected social media influencer and tech lawyer, Modupe “Moe” Odele @moechievous and used the hashtag #MyPeterObi to help manage trends.

Influencers looking to push for Obi’s appointment have spoken about using voter data and information to create statistical patterns that will provide the right intelligence for effective strategic decision-making.  They also discussed how to mobilize funds to maximize the chances of a man who is expected to have more than enough funds from his own sources  to push his own campaign.

Ensuring there is food for potential voters was also a major talking point as some believed not addressing the immediate needs of electorates who do not have food on their table could torpedo any good intention anyone has.

Videos of young Nigerians of young Nigerians swarming the INEC locations to get their PVCs has been spread all over the internet. Sources in Lagos told this publication that the  clamour for Peter Obi among the youths is quite high.

A viral post on Twitter by a Prince Ujay has been shared on other platforms including Facebook, claiming that former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, won Bill and Melinda Gates’ award for best governor in 2013 and built 10 hospitals.

The post read: “Are you aware that on July 6, 2013, Peter Obi won the Bill Gates and Melinda Award as the best Governor in Nigeria? And used the money to build 10 hospitals!

The youths ethic irredentism and nepotism in favour of Buhari and Atiku’s Fulani Muslim compatriots makes the possible advent of another Fulani Northern Muslim presidency seem problematic for many Nigerians.
