Downing Street staff crowded together, and sat on each other’s laps during lockdown breaches , witnesses have told BBC Panaorama.
The witnesses describe arriving for work the morning after a get-together to find bottles lying around parts of the building, bins overflowing with rubbish and empties left on the table.
The account is further damning for Downing Street and adds to criticism of an irresponsible culture during lockdown period when most members of the public where adhering to the lockdown rules.
The accounts come after ITV published a photograph of the prime minister toasting to a glass of wine..
The anonymous insider claims lockdown rules were routinely breached, and law breakers had the prime minister’s implicit permission to break the rules.
At the event attended by Boris Johnson in which he is depicted with a glass of wine, the prime minister reportedly attended and made a speech to thank Mr Cain, but as the party developed ”there were about 30 people, if not more, in a room. Everyone was stood shoulder to shoulder, some people on each other’s laps…one or two people.”
Attendees stayed the night and people were dancing around and drinking, according to the witnesses.
The account is further damning for Downing Street and adds to criticism of an irresponsible culture during lockdown period when most members of the public where adhering to the lockdown rules.
They confirm a complete disregard for the rules and the protection of lives due to the pandemic.
Worst of all, the accounts also logically confirm that downing street staff did not believe the virus was as serious as was being portrayed on the news. The revelations are most disgraceful, and suggest that the British public was put on lockdown in vain, and for no real or necessary purpose.
They also suggest that the whole fuss about vaccination passports briefly implemented in clubs in the Uk were believed to have been needless by Downing Street.
Public confidence in the government has been badly damaged as a result of the revelations about lockdown breaches during the pandemic, and these fresh accounts from insider witness adds to that damage.
Several Mps ahve called on the prime minister to step down as a result of partygate, but Boris Johnson has strong support in the House Of Commons, meaning he can fend off any attempt to force him to resign as a result of the revelations.
The detailed revelations are to be broadcast on BBC’s Panorama and presented by Laura Kuenssberg who published the accounts of several witnesses on the BBC.
