The RSPCA has launched an investigation after a dog was found to have been drowned in a lake while tied to a lawnmower in West Yorkshire.

The shih tzu dog was found washed up at the side of a small lake in Piccolo Row, Leeds, with two ends of a  wire tied around her neck. A bright orange lawnmower was tied to the other end, The Eye Of  Media.Com heard.

An RSPCA inspector attended the scene and found that the dog was microchipped, however the tracking of the person on the microchip  lrd to the discovery that  the dog was sold three years previously – potentially to a man known as ‘Mark’.

The microchip produced the dog’s name as Daisy and stated she was five years old. Dogs have reportedly been increasingly abandoned during the pandemic as several people struggle to finance their pets.

RSPCA Cymru has been called to 453 cases of dog abandonment this year , with 67 rescued in January, 56 in March, 55 in August, 37 in September and so far 21 in October.

The welfare charity have expressed concern that  financial pressures caused by the Covid-19 pandemic will badly affect dog welfare in the months ahead of us.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “This is very upsetting and sadly it appears that poor Daisy was deliberately drowned as there seems to be no other reason why she would be tied to the lawnmower.

“Why someone would do something so cruel like this is incomprehensible.

“We are very keen to find out who did this to Daisy and we urge anyone with any information at all to contact us in confidence on 0300 123 8018.”
