ONS Statistics Of 50,000 Increased Deaths Includes Deaths With Underlying Issues

The UK has now suffered more than 50,000 deaths linked to Covid-19, according to the government’s official figures, and the numbers includes deaths from other causes, new statistics show.

Some of the victims of the deadly virus numbered includes those linked to COVID-19 by doctors who filled in the death certificates  due to an absence of testing in the early days which meant a number of COVID-19 deaths had not been recorded, new statistics show.

One of the weakness with the diagnosis of COVID-19 without testing is the vulnerability of the process to a margin of error.  How wide that error may be is uncertain, but there is no doubt hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID-19 deaths.  The British government revised the numbers of COVID-19 deaths last June.

New statistics reveal that excess deaths judged to be linked to COVID-19 by doctors who filled in the death certificates includes deaths from other conditions such as heart disease because people did not get the treatment they needed.

The majority of the deaths came in the spring and was doubling every four days at one point before peaking at 1,000 deaths a day in April. The UK’s first coronavirus death  occurred on 30 January when 84-year-old Peter Attwood, from Chatham in Kent, died in hospital.

It was initially believed he died from heart failure and pneumonia before a coroner reportedly confirmed Mr Attwood had coronavirus in his lung tissue and listed his cause of death as COVID-19.

The Eye Of Media.Com has been in discussions with the Department Of Health And Social Care to reveal the full numbers of those with underlying issues that have died during the second wave of the pandemic in the Uk, and how many of them have suffered worsening health conditions due to not receiving treatment during the first pandemic.

The request is aimed at getting as much detail about the different types of people being hospitalised and killed by the virus to aid broad analysis from psychologists, teachers, and lawyers assessing the full impact of the pandemic in the Uk.

Overwhelmed

Government officials are said to be looking into those requests, but press representatives at different parts of the Uk have said different things. One press representative from London said hospitals were too overwhelmed with patients and occupied practitioners for those statistics to be pursued immediately, but others said it was being discussed by officials.

Mourned

Boris Johnson said every life was being mourned, while expressing optimism about the expectation of a vaccine. It has not yet been decided when the under 50’s will be included in relation to access to the vaccine when it arrives, as the elderly will be prioritised.

Throughout the autumn, the number of deaths has been rising, albeit much more slowly than in the spring, with deaths doubling every two weeks or so at the moment.

The British government’s death count only includes those who have died within 28 days of a positive test. Death records  also suggests that more people have been dying overall during the pandemic than would be expected.

The average age of people who have died with COVID-19 is above 80. Over 9 in 10 of the deaths among the over 65s, according to Office for National Statistics analyses of the pandemic.
