Knife crime must be addressed with tough discipline right from primary school. Children from dysfunctional homes who struggle at school are often going to be vulnerable to crime. Addressing the mentality that leads to crime is important right from early school, and this requires discipline and a stimulating academic environment.
Most young people susceptible to knife crime are from poor social economic backgrounds with no direction, low aspirations and therefore low future prospects. Children from broken homes are in desperate need of specialised attention right from a young age, to prevent them from falling into the trap of street crime that has destroyed so many young people. Rebellious children at primary school must be shown tough love , but also educated about the destructive life that accompanies a life of crime.
It has been said on this outlet in the past that the key to beating rampant criminal behaviour is sustained and broad education that goes beyond just the academic curriculum. Children must be taught to appreciate the benefits of education from a young age, moving away from the easy labelling of children as people suffering from dyslexia when all they need is careful and skilled attention to their learning patterns. Genuine dyslexia exists in some children, but many others are easily using this label to avoid the type of development that will benefit their future significantly.
Members of this news outlet recently could not agree on the boundaries of dyslexia and ADHD, after an article on the topic was abandoned about two weeks ago to the displeasure of the writer who who was disappointed they could not express their view because of the sensitivity of the topic. Topics like ADHD and dyslexia have since been put on the agenda for us to tackle in order to confront those issues that frequently provide escape routes for children who have other psychological disturbances at work that need special help.
News today that the government was investing £31.6m to train more education psychologists is great. Schools need very good education psychologists, but they also need higher levels of consistent discipline. Children should not be able to run riots in any schools . The Department of Education may need to think up tougher and smarter initiatives to root out indiscipline in schools, starting from primary schools. Teenage murderers will usually show the tell signs from primary school, but if nobody can control them, they can become a menace to society.
The number of people loosing their lives to knife crime in the Uk is just too much. The root cause has not changed. Young people with low self esteem , sometimes made worse by irresponsible absent fathers or mothers pressures many young people to seek approval from their wayward peers whom they should be distancing themselves from.
Children who grow up with parents who do not show their children love can be as bad as children with no parents at all. Something big is missing, and as a nation, we must rise up and do something about it. The punishment for carrying or using a knife definitely has to be increased to serve as a deterrent to those who are prepared to use knives and destroy many more lives than the one they kill.
Police also need to increase stop and search in trouble spots without any fear or concern of allegations of racial profiling. Anybody who hasn’t got a knife in their possession has nothing to worry about . The British Government has an important role to play in talent spotting good mentors to go into schools and communities and influence the young people positively.
Knife crime may never be totally eliminated, but it can be drastically reduced if the country can successfully make using a knife taboo in young circles across the Uk. Identifying all the many root causes of knife crime is the first step to rooting them out by working out clever solutions to them.
